ONE OF IRELAND’S MOST SCENIC ROAD TRIPS
The Ring of Kerry is a scenic drive and tourist trail around the Iveragh Peninsula in the southwest of Ireland, which is also part of the Wild Atlantic Way. It is truly one of Ireland’s most spectacular road trips!!
Starting in Killarney, the circular route is 111 miles (179 kilometres) long. It follows the N71 road down to Kenmare, then across to Cahersiveen, up to Glenbeigh and back to Killarney.
This road trip is one of the most popular choices for Irish motorists and is basically a must-do for self-drive travellers. The route takes you on a sightseeing adventure around a beautiful region of Ireland to see the rugged coastline of the peninsula.
Along the Ring of Kerry, you will witness plenty of breathtaking landscapes, including stunning sandy beaches. You can also try activities such as fishing, riding, golf and water sports. Wildlife enthusiasts may also love the area as it has booming populations of sea life and birds.
Just off the western coast, you’ll find Skellig Michael, a rocky island where the abandoned 7th-century St Fionán’s Monastery is located. The island was made famous on the big screen in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Visit through one of the many boat tours available during the summer.
