EXPERIENCE THE MOST SOUTH-WESTERLY POINT OF IRELAND
Mizen Head is one of the most southerly points of Ireland and is characterised by its dramatic cliff scenery.
Jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean, only ocean lies between you and North America. It is a raw and beautiful location to experience, with high winds, the sound of crashing tides and panoramic views.
You could also visit Mizen Head Signal Station, and its visitor centre, which is open to the public. It was built on this point to warn ships of the rocks that lie before the shores.
Nowadays, the signal station is also an award-winning Maritime Museum and Heritage attraction that has stood here for over 100 years. Visitors can learn all about its past and the way it worked to save lives.
You can reach it by driving to the car park, followed by a 10-minute walk, going down 99 steps and walking across the iconic arched Mizen footbridge, an impressive feat of engineering, with the cliffs below your feet.
The Mizen is also a perfect spot for wildlife watchers, as there is a lot of sea and birdlife here.
