ONE OF IRELAND’S MOST BEAUTIFUL VILLAGES
As you drive south from Limerick, make sure to stop in Adare, also known as Ireland’s most beautiful village. Adare was also designated a heritage town by the Irish government.
Despite Adare’s small size, there are plenty of activities and attractions to visit, both in town and nearby.
In the town centre, you can admire the 13th-century Catholic Holy Trinity Church. This church used to belong to the only Trinitarian monastery in Ireland. In the east of the town, you’ll find the 14th-century Augustinian Friary.
Catch a glimpse of the Adare Manor, the former home of the Dunraven family. It’s now run as a luxury hotel. You can also visit the restored ruins of the 12th-century Desmond Castle. The Adare Heritage Centre offers tours for those who want to learn more about its history.
Both historic buildings are set within a large park, parts of which serve as a golf course. If you decide to roam the grounds, don’t miss the old bridge and washing pond.
