DELVE INTO THE RICH HISTORY OF THIS VICTORIAN HOUSE AND GARDENS
Kylemore Abbey and Victorian Walled Garden is a former grand home and castle built in the late 1800s by wealthy businessman Mitchell Henry. He designed an estate boasting all the luxuries and innovation of the time.
In the 1920s, a group of Benedictine nuns took residence here, and they still run the house to this day.
Located north of the Connemara National Park, and one hour north-west of Galway, the abbey is one of the top attractions in Ireland today.
When you are in the area, the abbey is a must-see. You'll find plenty of activities, including daily history talks and tours.
Visit the restored rooms of the abbey and learn about its history. Then spend your afternoon lounging around the lush Victorian walled garden, the largest of its kind in Ireland.
The estate, set on almost 1,000 acres, is perfect for a relaxing afternoon. You can stroll along the property woodland and follow the lakeshore walk. Nearby you can also visit the beautiful Gothic Church and mausoleum where Henry and his wife were buried.
The entrance fee includes access to the whole estate, including rooms in the Abbey, and the walled garden.
